Access the Treatment You Deserve

Healthcare can be expensive. As a result, too many people hesitate to book the necessary appointments in case their insurance won’t cover them. When it comes to hearing aids and hearing loss treatment, you could be eligible for subsidies and support without even realising it.

Don’t put off your essential treatment any longer – by researching available subsidies and financial benefits, you could discover that hearing services are more accessible than ever.

Here at Melbourne Audiology Centre (MAC), we want everyone who needs hearing aids to be able to get them as soon as possible. To help make that happen, we’ve outlined the subsidies readily available through our clinic.

Subsidies Through Melbourne Audiology Centre

Pensioners and Veterans

Pensioners, veterans, and other clients may be eligible for fully subsidised hearing services and fully or partially subsidised hearing aids under the Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP).

Medicare

MAC can offer a Medicare benefit on your hearing assessment, though Medicare benefits are not available for hearing aids. All that’s required for assessment benefits is a referral from your GP or ENT to Melbourne Audiology Centre.

Private Health

If you have private health insurance extras, you may be eligible for benefits for hearing assessment and hearing aids. Contact your private health insurance provider to check your benefits and eligibility.

Workers’ Compensation

If you have a hearing loss condition related to working in a loud environment, you may be eligible for hearing devices and services through Workers’ Compensation. Following your hearing test, we will advise you on whether you may be eligible for hearing aids under Workers’ Compensation.

If you already have an accepted WorkCover claim for hearing loss, we can provide services and hearing aids. MAC is registered to provide hearing services and hearing aids for WorkSafe Victoria, Comcare, and other state-based workers’ compensation programs.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

NDIS participants may have funding in their NDIS plan for hearing assessment and hearing aids. We support NDIS participants who are self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed.

Your Hearing Aid Subsidies Questions Answered

The Australian Government’s support scheme provides a patient with around $500 in funding per hearing aid. This is usually enough to completely fund a basic hearing aid, though some higher levels of technology may come at a higher price.

Certain audiology-related services, like hearing assessments, can be claimed for Medicare benefits so long as a referral is provided. Hearing aids, however, are not eligible for Medicare benefits.

The Disability Discrimination Act can cover hearing impairments, and may be eligible for support through Centrelink.

The cost of hearing aids can vary significantly depending on the severity of your hearing loss and the quality of the technology you’re investing in. For personalised advice regarding your expected costs, come in for an examination with Melbourne Audiology Centre today.
