New Starkey Halo hearing aid - made for iPhone is here

abackground

In May, a few of the Audiologists from Melbourne Audiology Centre attended a launch event and initial training on the New Starkey Halo, made for iPhone hearing aids. The audiologists were quite impressed with what they heard.

The Starkey Halo is one of the first hearing aids advertised as 'made for iPhone'.  It allows the user to stream calls from their iPhone directly to their hearing aids using new Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology and to control their hearing aids using their iPhone without the need for an additional device such as a remote control or streamer.

In addition, the Halo has its own customised App called TruLink that offers additional functionality. It's functions include:

  • Remote screen- functions like a remote control allowing the user to adjust volume independently on the left and right hearing aids and switch to different memories programmed by the audiologist in the hearing aids
  • SoundSpace screen is the user’s personal adjustment tool so the user can easily personalise the settings, save them as additional memories and tag the location. This means that next time you are in that favourite location e.g. a cafe, the hearing aids will automatically go to your preferred and personalised settings
  • Microphone screen enables the user to use their iPhone as an extra microphone to pick up audio - such as a voice  -  and transmit it directly into the hearing aids or to record and save audio that can be listened to later or emailed
  • ‘Find my hearing aid’ feature can help you locate a lost or misplaced hearing aid. The TruLink App monitors the wireless connection and remembers the last known location prior to losing connection.

Halo hearing aids are engineered to work with your iPhone, iPad® and iPod touch®, so FaceTime® and phone calls, music, videos and more stream directly into your hearing aids with pristine sound quality – no background buzzing and whistling.

Your audiologist at Melbourne Audiology Centre can advise you as to whether the Halo hearing aids are right for you.
