Several factors will come into play, such as the aesthetics and comfort of the hearing aids, sound quality, user-friendliness, and their effectiveness in enhancing hearing in noisy environments. It’s also important to consider your budget and eligibility, including any potential benefits from the Australian Government Hearing Services Program (subject to certain conditions).

Although Medicare does not provide coverage for hearing aids, the Hearing Services Program (HSP) by the Australian Government may provide them to eligible individuals.

Thanks to the Commonwealth Hearing Services Program (HSP), eligible pensioners and clients of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) have the chance to benefit from complimentary or reduced-cost hearing aids and services. Providers accredited under the HSP have demonstrated excellence and consistency through a stringent and ongoing accreditation process. This ensures clients receive top-notch care.

Take advantage of our subsidised hearing tests if you’re above 50 years old at all our medical centers. Also, those receiving pensions, ex-servicemen, and others who qualify under the Government’s Hearing Services Program could be eligible for a subsidized hearing test too. A referral from a general practitioner isn’t required for a hearing assessment to be conducted by an audiologist.

It’s generally recommended to have your hearing checked at age 65, though many people under 65 also have their hearing tested as part of their overall health assessments.

For full-fee-paying individuals, a hearing test costs $185. Medicare rebates may be available with a GP referral addressed to Melbourne Audiology Centre— please contact us for more information.

The cost for ear wax removal is $130 for both ears. We offer a pensioner/senior card holders 10% discount. There is no Medicare rebate for this service.

This will depend on how deep in the ear canal the wax is located, how much there is and how hard the wax is. Your appointment is for 30min. Occasionally, a second appointment may be required if the wax is deep in the ear canal, if the wax is hard or if you didn’t use wax softener to soften the wax prior to your appointment.

Generally it is painless, however some people may experience some discomfort especially if the wax is impacted and deep in the ear canal. If it does become uncomfortable, the procedure will be stopped immediately. A subsequent appointment may be recommended in order to safely and painlessly remove deep or impacted wax. You clinician will advise you on what to do next.
